NINDS R01 on immune cells and skin reinnervation after peripheral nerve injury

Luke Hammond is a Co-Investigator on a five-year NINDS R01 led by Sangmin Jeon at Johns Hopkins University investigating how immune cells regulate skin reinnervation by collateral sprouting after peripheral nerve injury.

The project also includes Grace Shin as Co-Investigator, extending a long-standing collaboration focused on neuroimmune mechanisms in the peripheral nervous system.

The award, R01 NS132879-01A1, supports work from 2024 to 2029 to define how immune cells shape peripheral nerve regeneration and sensory reinnervation in skin.

The Quantitative Imaging Group will develop imaging and analysis workflows for whole-mount tissue and skin biopsy preparations, generating quantitative readouts of nerve architecture, immune-cell organization, and reinnervation dynamics.
